I hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday. I am grateful for you and for our connection.
I’ve been working on this song/project for 7 years, since 2017.
In Nov. 2017 I was skating by a building on 5th avenue in New York that I would have liked to live in (at the time) and I shot a picture of the entrance, posted it on Instagram & wrote in the caption, “Pull Up 2 Da Crib.”
I got home to my place on 118th & Lexington Ave and was inspired to compose a song with that name, and not just a song, for it to be a tool to bring you into the life that you want to live. Music is a tool, a very powerful one at that. Music is many of us artists therapy, for myself it saved my life when I was younger and growing into an adult. Helped me see a deeper level, helped me see that we are all the same on the inside, and helped me see that there is a mysterious force that guides all life that we can’t see taste or touch, but its there, moving everything, and everything is a manifestation of it.
After composing the song, I had a selfish thought of just keeping it to myself, which is very natural and common, I’m a producer and an artist, its mine, my precious. But then I thought, art is deeper when collaboration is done, and if I choose the correct artist, with the correct energy, it’ll be a banger. So I let go of that thought and my friend Hunter and Eazy came over, I played the track and asked them to get on it.
It was so joyful and it made the song so much richer. I have fond memories of us playing a mini mini golf set I had gotten from my Dad in the apartment. It was a long railroad style apartment I lived in at the time in East Harlem. I also had a play bow and arrow and we having lots of fun with those.
Music brings people together that would not normally come together and enables them to form a deep connection. Music and art is extremely important for peace and security in the world, more important that all the weapons and military might combined. Most likely you’re some type of an artist if you’re reading this, and if you are, please put your art in the forefront, release your work, people need it more than you know! and you need it more than you know!
As I received so much joy from having Hunter and Eazy on it, I had the idea to get many other artists on it, and it would be a song and an album at the same time.
The reason being that it took so long, was getting many artists on one track takes a lot of energy, I had bursts of inspiration and was able to get a few on each year, some verses didn’t make it but most of them did. As I write this I’m still putting the final touches on the project and there’s 21 artists on the track/album.
This song “PU2DC II” is the start of that release, it features pianist Tommy Peh from Singapore & BLKPRL from the Bronx, NY. Two incredible artists whom I’m honored to work with and be able to call friends.
The video is done by my good friend Stephen Reyes from Washington & in the trailer above another friend Ryan May is on classical guitar.
“PU2DC III” with over 21 artists will be released 12/28 or 1/28, but alas here’s “PU2DC II” 🏰💫
Make sure to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel and save the song on Spotify or Apple Music if you use those!
Enjoy! 🪷
